Tumblr fun with tags and image viewers
June 28, 2008
As Tumblr’s popularity increases, so do the myriad of tools and resources available to tumblelog users. Here’s a list of some recently discoverd tools since my last Tumblr round-up.

Tumblr Tagging
Take advantage of the Tumblr tagging field to give your readers another way to filter and browse your content. Some options for tagging include:
Tumblr Tag Cloud Generator
Enter the URL for your Tumblr site (e.g. yourname.tumblr.com) to generate a cloud of links from all of your tags. Tags can be generated alphabetically or by frequency. Once you have the cloud, grab the script code and paste it into your Tumblr’s HTML. Here’s my tag cloud:

Tumblr hack : A real tag cloud uses the actual tags that you assign to your posts to generate a tag cloud which you can embed within your Tumblr. You can see it in action here and here.
Easy Tag Filtering
An easy way to filter your tags is by simply using your Tumblr URL. Simply paste your tag keyword at the end your Tumblr URL as follows: http://YOURTUMBLRNAME.tumblr.com/tagged/TAG

Read more about tag filtering on the Tumblr Staff blog.

Image Viewers
If you’re looking for some fun ways to display your images, take a look at these image viewers.
Tumbler Image Viewer: Put the username you’d like to view in the url (ex: imageview/tumblinas.com)
Tumbler Mosaic Viewer

Other Fun and Useful tools
The Tumblr Fan World Map is a Google map of Tumblr users generated from the Tumblers on Ning community.
Tumblr Shuffle Script: Use this script to generate a random shuffle of your Tumblr blog posts. A fun way for your readers to view previous posts.
Tumbleweed is a desktop client which allows users to view posts and create new ones from their desktop. Tumblweed supports most features on Tumblr as well as allowing photos posts from webcams, clipboards, or drag-and-dropping. It works on both Windows and Mac. Tumbleweed runs on the free AdobeAir client.
TumblrStazer analyses outbound links for Tumblr sites using the Tumblr API. Read more about it in the Daily Meh.
The other great news is that there’s now an official Tumblr Staff blog. Check the blog for “the latest development updates, features, community spotlights, notices, events, tips, tutorials, hacks, meetups, themes, antics, philosophy, and trade secrets”.
Looking for some Tumblr themes? Tumblr Themes has an extensive repository of custom themes. You can filter themes by design, colour, and creator. At last check there were 74 themes available for download.
Leave a message in the comment box, If you have a great Tumblr tool to recommend.
Happy Tumbling!

Angela I tried the links that you suggest for adding the tags and what I did not like about the tag cloud is that each time you add new tags you still need to regenerate the code. I wanted something simple, like tags for the post at the end.
Here is how I did it

Hi Sonny, yes, that’s one of the things I didn’t like about Tumblr Tag Cloud Generator too.
