websites to watch … Pownce and Sphinn

July 13, 2007

PC World Canada has an interesting article on the 25 websites to watch.

Two new Web 2.0 sites I don’t see on the list are Pownce and Sphinn.

Pownce “is a way to send messages, files, links, and events to your friends. You’ll create a network of the people you know and then you can share stuff with all of them, just a few of them, or even just one other person really fast.” Pownce is a product of Megatechtronium and Digg’s Kevin Rose.

I’ve only been on Pownce for a few days now. Right now, access is by invitation only. It’s slick and definitely Twitter on steroids. I’ve always had difficulty convincing my friends to try Twitter, and I’ve never found anyone I know on TwitterSearch. Pownce makes it easy to find and invite friends. Links, photos and files can be shared publicly or privately. Will the twitter-ites head for Pownce in droves? Stay tuned…..

Sphinn promises to be the “digg” of search engine news. “Sphinn is a social site for search and interactive marketers. It’s designed to allow you to share and discover news stories, read and take part in discussions, discover events of interest and network with others.”
