my blogging year in sentences

December 19, 2007

Meme: The first sentence of the first post in each month of 2007 …. as seen on Ruminations and many other blogs.

January-April: nothing…. blogging wasn’t even on my radar….

May: Cool web tools. [my very first blog post!]

June: I’ve been spending a fair bit amount of time going through my favourite websites and bookmarking them in [my growing list of libraries]

July: Two blogs worth reading and bookmarking.

August: I had the opportunity to listen to Merdith Farkas and Paul Pival present on RSS for Libraries through the SIRSI/Dynix Institute today.

September: Another brilliant video from the folks at CommonCraft.

October: Wetpaint makes easy-to-use wikis and this video was made to answer the question “Why would you ever wiki?”

November: Do you cringe when your cell phone rings?

December: Robert Scoble talks to the inventor of the web, Tim Berners Lee, about the semantic web and the Web Science Research Initiative.

best of Mashable: blogging

Best of Mashable: blogging provides a round-up of links to blogging tools.

Thinking of blogging? Take a look at Mashable’s Blog Directory Toolbox and Blogging Toolbox.

As a blogger, I’m constantly looking for ways to improve my blog and learn more. (I’m also an iTunes podcast junky.)

Blogger & Podcaster Magazine has some good resources to learn more about both topics.

The site offers tips, product reviews, and links for both the newbie or seasoned blogger/podcaster.

The site also has a frequently updated newsfeed and a “blogger and podcaster guide” organized by topic. (You can advertise your blog and podcast for free too.)

Read the entire issue online or listen to the podcast equivalent of each articles.

Blog Action Day

October 12, 2007

Blog Action Day is October 15th.

“On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind – the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future.”

There are 3 ways to participate:
Post on your blog relating to the environment on Blog Action Day
Donate your day’s earnings to an environmental charity
Promote Blog Action Day around the web

What kind of blogger are you?

In the meantime, you can view the “Blog Action Day” video on YouTube or take the what kind of blogger are you? quiz.

Blog Day 2007

It’s still blog day in my time zone, so here’s a sampling of my favourite blogs, a few professional and others I peruse for pleasure, insight and inspiration.

Karin’s Style Blog
Looking at the world with a designer’s eye. Design inspirations and works from a Swedish designer.

Garden Rant : uprooting the gardening world
Don’t read this blog if you are looking for a magazine style garden. Love the manifesto!

How to save the world
“Dave Pollard’s environmental philosophy, creative works, business papers and essays. In search of a better way to live and make a living, and a better understanding of how the world really works.”

I highly recommend a daily dose of ResourceShelf “where dedicated librarians and researchers share the results of their directed (and occasionally quirky) web searches for resources and information.”

Slaw is a co-operative weblog about Canadian legal research and the impact of technology on it.
