tag clouds

September 8, 2007

I love tag clouds. They’re everywhere on the web these days. A tag cloud is a visual representation of categories or subjects on a website. The cloud is weighted to show which tags have more content. Tag clouds aid in search and discovery, and often reflect what is currently popular on a website. See this blog’s side-bar for an example of a categorical tag cloud.

Tag clouds (or text clouds) are also used to visually understand a body of text or phrase. The focus is on analysing the commonality of terms by emphasizing their weight or frequency of use.

OCLC’s ResearchWorks has an experimental TagCloud Builder.

Here’s the tag cloud for my blog:

So it looks like I “blog” quite about about “delicious”!
